27 Baffling Design Choices Found in the Wild (September 10, 2026)

These designs are in their flop era.

A flop era is something that everyone has to go through, no matter who they are. None of us are immune to it in the end, nor should we be, because they teach us everything. Nothing like a mistake to cast into relief all the times you did something right. These designs take a page out of that book and take that lesson to heart. Things don't always work out, and that's okay. We may have been attached to a certain outcome, and it didn't come to pass, and that can hurt. Maybe you were really rooting for your team to play in the baseball World Series, and it didn't work out. That can sting; I get it. But the problem was with the expectation in the first place. As a wise drag queen once said, "Expectations are just premeditated resentments." You can't sit around hanging your hat on something to work out just the way you thought it would because you want it to.

The minute you attach yourself to a certain thing, that's the moment you know things are bound to go wrong. Things are going to zig when you'd rather zag, and whip when you'd rather nae nae. Because when your feelings are wrapped up in something like that, it's hard for things to go right. The best, most zen path is remaining unattached to all the outcomes. You let whatever higher power take the wheel. You sit back and let the universe do its thing, because you have no other alternative. That doesn't mean that you're resigned to nothingness; it just means that you are holding on a little loosely. These design fails teach us how to do that, in all their spectacular failure. They're here to teach us things. You can still feel happy when things work out, but you weren't hanging your hat on that probability. It's easier said than done, though, because we love to attach. But these are easy to let go, and so we shall. Because next week we'll be back to do the same thing all over again.
